The Rivers State House of Assembly has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to send in the names of commissioner nominees for screening and confirmation as required by the constitution.

The lawmakers also asked the governor to present a new appropriation bill that reflects the present realities in the state, following the end of the six-month emergency rule triggered by the political crisis.

At its first sitting on Thursday since the suspension of democratic institutions, the House considered a motion sponsored by Majority Leader Major Jack and eight other members, setting the legislative agenda for the remainder of the Third Session of the 10th Assembly.

During the debate, members commended the motion and stressed the importance of stability, transparency, and responsive governance in the state.
Speaker Martin Chike Amaewhule, in his remarks, thanked President Bola Tinubu for restoring democratic institutions and pledged that the Assembly would work with the governor in line with the peace accord and constitutional provisions.
He assured that the House would prioritise peace and good governance, while also reviewing activities of the past six months, particularly contract awards and withdrawals from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
