Wike Warns Against Jonathan Comeback Bid

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has cautioned that calls for former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 election are a ploy to destabilise the country.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night, Wike said it was hypocritical for those who abandoned Jonathan in 2015 to suddenly push for his return, arguing that the former president had already earned global recognition as an international statesman.

“Anybody saying Jonathan should return because he will only do one term is only looking for a crisis,” Wike said, adding that such moves would drag Jonathan into unnecessary conflict.

The minister also dismissed the argument for a one-term presidency from any candidate in the South, describing it as a disingenuous attempt to upset the political balance.

On the economy, Wike admitted that Nigerians were going through hardship but maintained that President Bola Tinubu had taken tough but necessary steps to reset the system. He cited ongoing projects in Abuja as evidence of progress.

He further criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for warning of a looming revolution, accusing him of lacking credibility.

“Atiku was vice president for eight years. Why didn’t he lay the foundation to prevent hunger then? Now he keeps talking about hunger and revolution,” Wike said.

He urged patience from Nigerians, warning opposition figures not to exploit current challenges for political gain.
