He said his withdrawal was voluntary and was made without pressure, coercion, undue influence or inducement from any individual or group.
Ibrahim explained that he had earlier been nominated to serve as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, but had now decided to discontinue his participation in the electoral process.
He also asked the party to remove his name from its records as a candidate. He said he had submitted an affidavit sworn in line with Section 31 of the Electoral Act 2026 to support his decision.
The former vice-presidential nominee thanked the leadership and members of the APM for the opportunity to serve on the party’s presidential ticket and wished the party success in the 2027 elections.
His withdrawal comes shortly after Makinde selected former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, as his new running mate.
Daura, who served as DSS director-general from 2015 to 2018, was presented at the APM national convention held on Thursday at the Rilwan Adamu Square in Bauchi.
The convention also formally confirmed Makinde as the APM’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
With Ibrahim’s withdrawal, Daura is now set to contest alongside Makinde on the APM presidential ticket, subject to the completion of the required electoral processes.
