Zonal Leaders Plots PDP Takeover

The leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party has taken a new turn, with zonal chairmen preparing to step in if the courts uphold the expulsion of Samuel Anyanwu.

Party insiders said the move is aimed at preventing a leadership vacuum if key conventions linked to him are nullified.

Sources said the zonal leaders are considering invoking a doctrine of necessity to install acting national leaders.

The plan includes appointing an interim national chairman and secretary from within existing party structures.

Some leaders argued that the situation now requires urgent internal action to stabilise the party.

The development comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission faces pressure from a rival faction to withdraw recognition of Anyanwu.

The group cited a court ruling affirming his expulsion and insisted that any actions taken by him should no longer stand.

However, the faction aligned with Nyesom Wike rejected the claims, maintaining that no valid expulsion took place.

Legal uncertainty remains, with the matter now before higher courts, leaving the party’s leadership structure hanging in the balance.
