Kalu Says Health Issues Made Ganduje Quit APC Chairmanship

Orji Uzor Kalu has said that Abdullahi Ganduje stepped down as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) because of health challenges.

Kalu, who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission and also a former Governor of Abia State, gave this explanation during a media chat on Tuesday.

The resignation of Ganduje, who is a former Governor of Kano State, caused reactions across the political scene.

While some people linked it to the possible return of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to the APC, the ruling party insisted that the move was not forced.

Ganduje, in his letter to the party, mentioned personal and urgent reasons for his resignation.

On Monday, the APC confirmed that consultations are underway to find a new national chairman.

Kalu said he met Ganduje two weeks before the resignation, and from their conversation, it became clear that health matters played a role in the decision.

He explained that during their meeting, they talked about the state of the party, personal concerns, and Ganduje’s health.

He added that health issues are usually private and not something people can easily understand from the outside.
