Vote for NDC is Vote to Kill APGA — Opara

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has urged its members not to support the Nigeria Democratic Congress in the 2027 elections, with the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, arguing that votes for the NDC would weaken APGA.

Opara made the position known in a statement on recent political developments, particularly the growing activities of the NDC and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The APGA spokesman accused Obi, a former Anambra State governor and former member of the party, of working against APGA in successive election cycles.

Opara alleged that Obi had sought to weaken APGA since 2014 by supporting opposition candidates against the party during previous elections. He also claimed that similar actions occurred during the 2017, 2021 and 2025 election cycles.

He questioned why the NDC presidential candidate had candidates contesting various positions against APGA members if there was an understanding between both parties.

Opara also dismissed reports of any formal or informal agreement between APGA and the NDC on power-sharing, saying the two parties had no such arrangement.

He described the NDC as a Special Purpose Vehicle and APGA as an established political party, urging APGA members to remain committed to the party rather than support candidates of the opposition group.

The APGA spokesman also defended the party’s support for President Bola Tinubu, saying it was not based solely on the party’s traditional relationship with the federal government.

According to him, APGA’s backing of Tinubu is also linked to what he described as the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development in the Southeast.

Opara claimed that the Tinubu administration had demonstrated more commitment to infrastructure in the region than any federal government since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.

He further accused Obi of treating political parties as platforms to be used for electoral purposes and subsequently abandoned, urging APGA members not to be swayed by what he described as the former governor’s political approach.

The allegations against Obi and the NDC were made by Opara in his statement and were not independently established in the report.
