The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had, in November 2023, sacked Sulaiman (PDP- Ningi Central Constituency) and Dahiru (PDP – Bauchi Central Constituency).

The court also ordered a re-run of the March 11, 2023, general election in the constituencies.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Suleiman and Dahiru winners of the February 3 and February 4, 2024, re-run election in the constituencies, respectively.

Akuyam said his resignation was part of the agreement reached by the lawmakers to step down to enable the duo to return to their positions.

He thanked the lawmakers and legislative staff for their support and cooperation during their stewardship of the House.

Also speaking, Suleiman hailed the outgoing Speaker and his deputy for keeping to their words.

He also pledged to provide effective legislations for the betterment of the lives of the people of Bauchi State.
