Ekiti Poll Success Will Boost Election Trust – INEC Chairman

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash Amupitan, has said the outcome of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State will play a key role in strengthening public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He made the remark during an inspection of preparations in Ado-Ekiti.

He explained that the Ekiti election is an important test for the commission as it continues reforms aimed at improving election credibility.

According to him, INEC’s duty is to ensure that elections are conducted fairly and that results reflect the true choice of voters without bias toward any candidate or party.

Amupitan stressed that the commission is focused on transparency, proper planning and timely deployment of sensitive materials to avoid disruptions on election day.

He noted that careful preparation helps reduce risks linked to logistics, weather and other challenges that could affect the voting process.

He added that a successful election in Ekiti, followed by a smooth exercise in Osun State, would further strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.

He assured voters, political parties and stakeholders that INEC remains committed to delivering credible elections in line with the law.
