Imam Denies Oyo Banditry Link, Seeks Rescue Action

The Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Imam Yunus Olushina Teliat, has denied claims linking him to terrorism and banditry while calling on authorities to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in parts of Oyo State.

The allegations against him have circulated on social media, which he described as false and damaging.

The cleric expressed concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers from communities including Ahoro, Esin-Ele and Yawota.

He said the situation has caused deep pain to families and urged both federal and state authorities to step up rescue efforts and ensure the victims are safely returned.

He also praised security operatives involved in ongoing operations, noting the risks they face in trying to rescue the abducted victims.

At the same time, he offered prayers for the children, teachers and their families, asking for their safe return and comfort for those affected.

Responding to the allegations against him, the Imam rejected any connection to criminal groups and described the claims as false.

He added that legal steps had been taken against those spreading the accusations and reaffirmed his commitment to peace, while also urging restraint in public commentary on sensitive issues.
