In Abuja, a Federal High Court has upheld the forfeiture of $13 million linked to Lagos socialite Aisha Achimugu and her firm Oceangate Engineering Oil and Gas Limited to the federal government.

The ruling followed a case brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which traced the funds to alleged unlawful activities.

Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the anti-graft agency provided enough evidence to show the money was proceeds of fraud.

He said the company failed to explain how it obtained the funds, while claims that the money came as gifts were not backed by proof in court.
The court also noted that no donor appeared to support the claim of gifts, and the firm could not show any business transactions that generated such funds.
The judge held that the burden of proof was not met, reinforcing the decision to hand over the money to the government.
The case began with an interim forfeiture order in 2025 after investigations into payments linked to oil block acquisitions.
With the final ruling, all claims by the company have been dismissed, bringing the legal battle over the funds to a close.
