The gunmen arrived heavily armed and attempted to take over the local police station.

During the clash with local security operatives, the vigilante leader was killed while the chief security officer, identified as Odeyemi, was shot.

Residents said the attackers remained active in the area for some time during the assault.

Witnesses said the incident forced many people to flee or hide indoors as fear spread through the town.

At the time of the report, there was no official response from security agencies, and it remained unclear if reinforcements had reached the area.

The attack comes amid rising insecurity in parts of Kwara South, where communities have faced repeated threats of kidnappings and armed raids.

Authorities had earlier warned of possible coordinated attacks in the region, placing security operatives on alert.
