The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has established a separate 168-member campaign council for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The move follows controversy over the role of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who recently joined the Accord Party but had appointed himself coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign in Osun State.
Adeleke had inaugurated a 344-member Presidential Campaign Council in Osogbo, an event that was notably attended by neither former governor Adegboyega Oyetola, APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji nor state party chairman Tajudeen Lawal.
Announcing the new council on Monday, Lawal said it was established to coordinate efforts to secure support for Tinubu and APC candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats in the state.
Oyebamiji was named Director-General of the council, while Lawal will serve as Deputy Director-General.
Other members include the party’s three senatorial candidates, nine House of Representatives candidates, four former deputy governors, General Alani Akinrinade, Femi Fani-Kayode and other APC leaders.
Lawal said the decision followed Adeleke’s position that he would support Tinubu’s re-election but would not campaign for other APC candidates. The party said it had therefore selected its own leaders and members to coordinate its campaign across the state.
