Former national secretary of the defunct Alliance for Democracy, Prof Udenta Udenta, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of fabricating terrorism financing allegations against Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

Speaking on Tuesday on Arise News Channel’s breakfast programme, Udenta said the EFCC acted wrongly by linking the name of a sitting governor to terrorism financing through media reports, describing the move as unprofessional and harmful.
He argued that while no public office holder is above the law, investigations involving serving governors should be handled discreetly and without public drama.

Udenta claimed the terrorism financing angle was introduced after earlier attempts to bring suspects before a judge failed, insisting that Governor Mohammed should not have been publicly associated with the case at that stage.

He warned that once such allegations are widely circulated, reputational damage is already done, regardless of the final outcome in court.
Udenta also criticised what he described as a media-driven approach by the EFCC, accusing the agency of damaging the governor’s image through public narratives rather than following due process.
