Governor Umo Eno has signed the 2026 budget of Akwa Ibom State into law, approving a spending plan of ₦1.58 trillion to run the affairs of the state in the coming fiscal year.

The budget was signed on Monday during an enlarged State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Uyo, attended by lawmakers led by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Udeme Otong.

Under the new law, ₦416.5 billion is set aside for recurrent spending, while ₦1.16 trillion will fund capital projects aimed at infrastructure, growth, and public services across the state.
During the event, Eno also named the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anietie Udofia, as Commissioner of the Year, announcing a ₦20 million cash reward, a one-week leave, and an additional ₦100 million for members of the event planning committee.

The governor urged members of his cabinet to show full commitment to service delivery, warning that delays and excuses would no longer be accepted as the administration moves into an action-driven year.
Lawmakers and budget officials praised the cooperation between the executive and legislature, noting that adjustments made after budget defence raised the total size from ₦1.39 trillion, with officials expressing confidence that the plan will drive economic development in 2026.
