The Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State has criticised Governor Douye Diri for allegedly omitting President Bola Tinubu’s photograph from campaign billboards erected across the state.
The party accused Diri of being reluctant to identify with Tinubu’s re-election campaign despite his defection to the All Progressives Congress.
The PDP Publicity Secretary in Bayelsa, Ikaebimo Mark, made the allegation in a statement issued on Saturday in Yenagoa.
Mark said the party’s earlier claims that Diri was not supporting Tinubu had been reinforced by the content of the APC campaign billboards.
He explained that several billboards across the state capital urged residents to support the party’s candidates for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly but did not feature the President’s photograph.
The PDP spokesman described the omission as an indication that Diri was not fully aligned with the APC’s national leadership and its position on Tinubu’s re-election.
He questioned how the governor could claim to support the President when campaign materials promoting candidates of his new party excluded Tinubu’s image.
The allegations were made by the PDP, while the statement did not include a response from Diri or the APC.
