Security sources say the strikes were carried out under President Donald Trump’s administration, with planning done alongside Nigeria’s Office of the National Security Adviser. The office, led by Nuhu Ribadu, reportedly worked with internal intelligence units to track the targets.
The US military, through Africa Command, was responsible for executing the attacks after the targets were identified. The aim was to weaken terrorist networks operating in the region and prevent further attacks on communities.

AFRICOM later confirmed on social media that it had struck terrorist enclaves in northwest Nigeria. An earlier post contained a spelling error in the name of Sokoto, which was later corrected.
Authorities have not released details on the number of targets hit, the level of damage, or whether civilians were affected. Both Nigerian and US officials are yet to provide further clarification on the full outcome of the operation.
