Members of the Igbo community in Sokoto State spent Christmas Day at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, where detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu is being held, as part of a humanitarian outreach to inmates.

The visit took place during the Christmas celebration and involved community leaders and members who chose to mark the season by sharing food, time, and fellowship with prisoners at the facility.
The outreach was organised by the Igbo community leadership in Sokoto, led by Nze A. C. Madu, who said the action reflected compassion, unity, and concern for those behind bars during the festive period.

Instead of focusing on one inmate, the group decided to provide meals for everyone at the centre, allowing about 1,300 inmates to take part in the Christmas celebration together.
The community said the gesture was guided by Igbo values of collective care and the belief that kindness should cut across background, offence, or personal circumstance.
Nnamdi Kanu is currently held at the Sokoto Correctional Centre after being sentenced in November 2025 by Justice James Omotosho to life imprisonment on terrorism charges, alongside additional prison terms on other counts.
