The African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate in the Anambra South by-election, Donald Amamgbo, has rejected the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the exercise as a charade.

The poll, held on Saturday, August 16, saw the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, declared winner with 90,408 votes. He defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Azuka Okwuosa, who polled 19,847 votes, while Amamgbo of the ADC secured 2,889 votes.

Speaking at a press briefing in Awka on Tuesday, Amamgbo alleged that the election was marred by sabotage, collusion, and deliberate disenfranchisement. He claimed that INEC officials withheld accreditation tags for ADC collation agents on the eve of the election, which he said crippled the party’s ability to monitor and defend its votes.

He described the exercise as “a carefully orchestrated charade” that denied the electorate the opportunity to freely choose their representatives.
“This struggle is not about me but about securing the future of our democracy and restoring faith in the ballot,” he said, vowing to continue speaking against what he called systemic sabotage and the desecration of democratic norms.
Amamgbo maintained that Anambra South and Nigeria at large deserved better, insisting that he would not relent until electoral integrity was restored.
