Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that all governors from the South East are in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027.

His position was shared in a video posted on Instagram by People of Ebonyi on Sunday.

Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, maintained that when the presidency is eventually zoned to the South East, he should be a leading contender because of his record in governance. He credited his stewardship in Ebonyi as evidence of his capability and said his current role in the federal cabinet is helping to deliver more development to the region.

The minister’s latest statement comes nearly two months after he revealed plans for South East leaders to hold a summit to formally declare their support for Tinubu. He had earlier used a State House documentary, aired in May during Tinubu’s second anniversary in office, to stress that all South East governors, regardless of party differences, are behind the president.
According to Umahi, the region is experiencing renewed federal attention through ongoing infrastructure projects. He noted that Ebonyi, which had long complained about lack of federal presence, is now hosting at least four major projects under the current administration.
He further said the South East seeks fairness and equal treatment within the Nigerian federation, arguing that Tinubu’s leadership is giving the zone a sense of belonging.
