Taraba Governor Denies Spending Billions On Foreign Trips

The Taraba State government has rejected claims that Governor Agbu Kefas spent ₦5.22 billion on foreign trips within a six-month period.

The allegation, which surfaced in a newspaper report, was dismissed by the government as false and misleading.

The report suggested that the governor had incurred the huge expenses on international travel. It referenced data supposedly obtained from the state government’s website and the National Bureau of Statistics.

In reaction, the Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Barrister Zainab Jalingo, issued a statement refuting the claims. She said there was no record of such expenditure in any official budget, on the state’s website, or in data released by the NBS. The commissioner described the report as a fabrication and urged the public to cross-check the facts for themselves.

The state government also challenged the journalist to provide verifiable documents to back up the allegation. It insisted that hearsay and unnamed sources could not pass as evidence of such a serious claim. According to the statement, until credible proof is provided, the reported figure remains fictional.

Beyond the denial, the government used the opportunity to highlight its ongoing reforms in education, healthcare, and economic growth. It explained that Governor Kefas is focused on rebuilding Taraba after years of underdevelopment, stressing that progress requires careful planning and consistent effort.

The statement further urged residents to disregard the report and rely only on official platforms for reliable updates. The government reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and accountability while promising to continue providing accurate information to the public.
