INEC Officials Delay Sparks Anger In Abuja

Residents of Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory were left stranded on Saturday after officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission failed to arrive at several polling units hours after voting was meant to begin.

The delay affected parts of PW Maroko and Phase 4, where voters gathered early in anticipation of the exercise.

Many people had arrived at polling centres such as PW Maroko 005 and 033 as early as 7am, only to meet empty stations.

By 9am, there were still no signs of electoral officials or materials, leaving voters waiting by the roadside and under makeshift shelters.
“As you can see, we have not seen any INEC officials here at Polling Units 033 and 005, and this is already 9am,” a voter, Nurat Usman who spoke to Reporters said.
Others voiced fears that the delay could stop some residents from voting, especially those with work or family duties.
The disruption unfolded against a backdrop of political tension in the FCT following the recent curfew imposed by the Minister, Nyesom Wike, a move that has stirred debate among residents.
