Christmas preparations are underway in Kwara State as security agencies move to protect lives and property during the festive season.

The police and civil defence say the steps are meant to keep residents safe in worship centres and other public places.
The Kwara State Police Command announced that the measures cover churches, markets, motor parks, highways, event centres and recreational spots across the state. The action targets the Christmas and New Year period, when public movement is usually high.

According to the police, officers have increased visibility patrols, intelligence-led operations and targeted checks. Tactical and specialised units have also been placed on high alert, with surveillance and raids ongoing in identified flashpoints.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the plan follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and reflects the commitment of the state’s Commissioner of Police to proactive policing. Officers on duty have been instructed to act professionally and courteously.

Residents were urged to remain alert and celebrate responsibly, while reporting suspicious activities to nearby police stations or the command’s control room lines. The police assured that security would be sustained before, during and after the festivities.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara has deployed 2,380 personnel across all 16 local government areas. The officers, drawn from specialised units, are tasked with protecting critical assets, public facilities and ensuring peaceful celebrations throughout the season.
