Kidnapped Oriire Pupils, Teachers Regain Freedom

The pupils and teachers abducted by gunmen from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom, almost two months after they were taken captive.

The victims were kidnapped during attacks on Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota schools, an incident that caused concern among residents and the wider public.

The development was made public by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X account. He announced that the abducted pupils and teachers had been released by their captors.

Following their release, the Principal of Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esiele, Mrs Alamu Folawe, spoke in a video expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies for the efforts that led to their freedom.

She said the victims were thankful for the government’s response and the commitment shown towards ensuring their safe return. She also praised the security operatives involved in the rescue efforts, saying their dedication made it possible for the victims to regain their freedom alive.

The release of the pupils and teachers has brought relief to their families, the affected communities and the Oyo State education sector, which had waited anxiously for positive news since the abduction.
