Gunmen Abduct Worshippers In Plateau Night Attack

Twelve Muslim worshippers were abducted late Saturday night while travelling to Gaji village in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State for Maulud prayers, adding to growing security fears in the area.

The incident happened around 10:30 pm at the Bunyun axis when the victims were on board a vehicle heading to the religious gathering before armed men stopped them on the road and forced them away.
Residents said the attackers were believed to be local armed groups operating in the area, as the victims were taken to an unknown location shortly after the ambush.
By the following day, security operatives had visited the scene as search efforts began, with authorities working to trace the kidnappers and locate the abducted worshippers.

Police confirmed that an investigation was underway, noting that officers led by the divisional police team in Bashar had been deployed and rescue operations intensified across surrounding communities.
The abduction has renewed public concern over repeated attacks on travellers in Plateau State, recalling past deadly assaults on commuters that have left many residents anxious about safety on major routes, especially during religious events.
