APC Group Backs Tinubu Envoy List

The APC Media Network has defended President Bola Tinubu’s latest ambassadorial nominations after criticism from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The group responded as the PDP questioned the integrity and suitability of some of the 32 nominees.

The clash began when PDP spokesperson Ini Ememobong listed concerns about the nominees, pointing to past controversies around figures such as former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode and former presidential aide Reno Omokri. The PDP argued that many Nigerians were displeased with the selections and claimed the list reflected poor judgment.

The APC group pushed back, saying the list was built on merit, national interest and Nigeria’s diplomatic priorities. It dismissed the PDP’s reaction as a product of internal party troubles and accused its leaders of spreading misinformation. The group insisted the nominees possess the experience and character needed for their new roles.

The defence also addressed the PDP’s attacks on Yakubu, calling them political and tied to the party’s electoral losses. The APC group said Yakubu’s professional record and administrative background make him suited for ambassadorial service.

The statement further accused the PDP of double standards, recalling what it described as the opposition party’s history of questionable appointments during its time in power. It said the real threat to Nigeria’s global image was not Tinubu’s choices but what it called reckless political rhetoric from the PDP.

The group concluded that the nominees would add value to Nigeria’s representation abroad and that no amount of criticism would change the President’s confidence in them.
