Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has said the Southeast’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition could encourage the Southwest to back an Igbo presidency when power returns to the South.
Soludo made the remarks in a video addressing his followers, describing presidential succession as a process that requires discussions and agreements among political stakeholders.
He said supporting Tinubu, who is from the Southwest, could help build an understanding that would benefit the Southeast when the presidency returns to the southern region after another northern tenure.
According to the governor, the Southwest could support an Igbo candidate at the appropriate time if the Southeast backs Tinubu’s second-term bid.
The Southeast has long sought the presidency, with former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi contesting the position in the 2023 general election under the Labour Party.
Obi finished third in the election but maintained that he had won and that his victory had been denied.
