Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has challenged President Bola Tinubu to identify the ministers and other officials allegedly involved in paying billions of naira to secure government appointments.
Atiku made the call in a post on his X account on Friday, following allegations by Alwan Hassan, a spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
The former vice president questioned who allegedly received the money, arguing that Nigerians deserved answers because Tinubu appointed the ministers in question.
He also criticised the administration over the rising cost of living and its handling of funding for government ministries.
Atiku alleged that the government’s decisions had worsened economic hardship and claimed that withholding funds from ministries because of distrust in ministers had left Nigerians bearing the consequences.
Hassan made the allegations during an interview on Arise News on Thursday while defending Tinubu’s record ahead of the 2027 general election.
He claimed that some ministers paid billions of naira to secure their appointments and then focused on recovering the money after assuming office.
Hassan also argued that the alleged practice predated the APC administration and was not limited to ministers serving under the current government.
However, he did not name any minister who allegedly paid for an appointment or identify the purported recipients of the payments during the interview.
While defending the administration, the APC campaign spokesperson cited government initiatives in the power and education sectors, including funding for electricity meters and the renovation of primary schools and classrooms, as examples of its performance ahead of the 2027 election.
