The complaint was filed by lawyer John Aikpokpo Martins and accused the lawmaker of making false declarations about his participation in the NYSC scheme and his attendance at the Nigerian Law School before he was called to the Nigerian Bar.

In a decision dated March 11, 2026, the committee ruled that the matter did not fall within its jurisdiction.

It also held that the petitioner failed to present sufficient evidence to justify inviting the deputy speaker to respond to the allegations.

The committee explained that the claims raised were criminal matters linked to events that allegedly occurred before Kalu was admitted to the Bar and therefore should be addressed by the appropriate courts or regulatory bodies rather than the disciplinary panel.
