Obi Dismisses Transactional Campaign Claims

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has rejected claims that he tried to recruit Daniel Bwala into his campaign during the 2023 presidential election.

Obi said the allegation was false and had no basis, adding that he has never had political dealings with the presidential adviser.

The response came through a statement released in Abuja by his media aide, Ibrahim Umar.

The statement said the claim was initially ignored but a clarification became necessary so that the public would not be misled by the allegation.

Obi’s camp said he does not engage in what it described as transactional politics and would not involve people associated with such practices in his political activities.

The statement also criticised Bwala’s accusation, saying the former Anambra governor focuses his efforts on projects that support ordinary citizens rather than political deals.

The clarification followed remarks made by Bwala during an interview with media personality Daddy Freeze.

Bwala had alleged that Obi attempted to bring him into the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign through former president Olusegun Obasanjo during a meeting in London, but he claimed he rejected the offer.
