A Delta State High Court has stepped in to halt the planned return of the tinted glass permit enforcement by the Nigeria Police Force, blocking the move before it could begin nationwide.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday by Justice Joe Egwu at the Orerokpe Judicial Division following a suit filed by a Delta resident, Israel Joe, who challenged the legality of the policy.

The court restrained the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police Force, and their officers from enforcing the policy scheduled to restart on January 2, 2026.

Justice Egwu also barred the police from stopping vehicles, harassing motorists, making arrests, detaining citizens, or collecting money under the tinted glass permit scheme while the case is still pending.
The judge further stopped the police from using a private contractor’s account linked to Parkway Projects for permit-related payments and approved substituted service of court papers through the Delta State Police Command in Asaba.
The decision followed renewed objections from the Nigerian Bar Association, which warned that the policy could lead to abuse and rights violations, despite police claims that it is needed to curb crime involving tinted vehicles.
