The declaration was made in Abuja on Wednesday during the public launch of a book written by former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, an event that drew political leaders from across party lines.

Makinde said he had no plans to follow PDP governors who have defected to the ruling party, making it clear that his political future is still tied to the opposition party.

He explained that Nigeria’s progress depends on honest cooperation among leaders, not party switches driven by personal ambition, adding that most Nigerians want unity rather than constant political rivalry.

The governor blamed deep national divisions on political elites, noting that religion, ethnicity, and region are often used for personal gain, while ordinary citizens simply want peace and inclusion.

His comments come at a time when the PDP is facing leadership disputes and rising defections, while the APC continues to gain strength, fueling political tension ahead of future elections.
