Obi Condemns Attack On Ngige Convoy During Visit To Alor

Peter Obi has condemned the attack on the convoy of former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige.

He made the remark on Friday during a visit to Ngige’s home in Alor, Idemili South, where he met with the former governor and his family.

Obi said he was grateful that Ngige survived the incident but described the killing of a woman at the scene as a painful reminder of the insecurity many communities still face. He called for stronger security coordination as the festive season approaches so people can move around without fear.

Ngige explained to Obi that his aides were returning from errands when they were ambushed around Umuoji by gunmen dressed in police and military uniforms. The attackers shot at the vehicles, killed a woman, injured his police orderly and took the officer’s rifle and uniforms.

He dismissed rumours about his death and said the gunmen made troubling remarks while accusing the police of serving what they called a “zoo government.” He added that it was unclear whether the attack was aimed at him or whether the group was simply targeting convoys escorted by police.

Ngige said he had already briefed Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who promised that security agencies would track down the attackers and prevent further threats to the public.

Obi thanked God for Ngige’s safety and expressed sympathy to the family of the slain woman. He urged the authorities to deliver justice and do more to protect citizens from such violence.
