President Bola Tinubu has renewed Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa’s appointment as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five years.

Marwa, who first assumed the role in 2021 under former President Buhari, will now lead the agency until 2031.

The Adamawa-born retired military officer previously chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse and served as military governor of Lagos and Borno States. His career includes postings as ADC to the Chief of Army Staff, academic registrar at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and defence adviser at Nigerian missions in Washington, DC, and the United Nations.

Marwa holds a Master of Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University. Since taking over the NDLEA, he has overseen the arrest of more than 73,000 drug offenders and seized over 15 million kilograms of illicit substances.
His tenure also saw the rollout of nationwide campaigns targeting drug abuse, with a focus on protecting young Nigerians from the influence of narcotics.
The reappointment signals continued confidence in his leadership and the agency’s efforts to combat drug trafficking across the country. President Tinubu commended Marwa for his performance and urged him to sustain the fight against drug-related crimes.
