Natasha Threatens Legal Action If Barred From Resuming Senate Duties

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has warned the Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamorudeen Ogunlana, against blocking her return to the Senate on Monday, September 15, after completing a six-month suspension.

In a letter dated September 10 and signed by her lawyer, Chief Michael Numa (SAN), the Kogi Central lawmaker said she would sue the Clerk personally and in his official capacity if he disobeys the subsisting court order.

“Failure to comply by Monday will leave us with no option but to initiate proceedings against you,” the letter read. Numa accused the Clerk of violating the Constitution and the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, warning that contempt charges and disciplinary actions were being considered.

The National Assembly had earlier insisted that Akpoti-Uduaghan could not resume, arguing that her suspension remained valid since the case was still pending at the Court of Appeal.

But her legal team maintains that the refusal to obey an existing judgment amounts to disobedience of court orders and could provoke a breach of peace.
