The Kebbi State House of Assembly has passed two amendment bills aimed at changing the administrative and operational structure of two state-owned tertiary institutions.

The affected institutions are the Kebbi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, and the Kebbi State College of Nursing Sciences, Birnin Kebbi.

The two pieces of legislation are the Kebbi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega (Amendment) Law of 2025 and the Kebbi State College of Nursing Sciences, Birnin Kebbi (Amendment) Law of 2025.
The bills were passed during Tuesday’s plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje.
The process began after the House Committee on Higher Education submitted its reports on the proposed amendments.

The committee, chaired by Dr Suleiman Abubakar Fana, said it examined the bills and consulted officials from both institutions before reaching its recommendations.
Following the presentation, lawmakers went into the Committee of the Whole to examine the proposed changes clause by clause.
The members considered the various provisions and adopted the committee’s recommendations and amendments.
The two bills were subsequently read for the third time before lawmakers approved them through a voice vote.
The new laws are expected to introduce changes to the governance, administration and day-to-day operations of the two tertiary institutions.
The legislation will now be forwarded to the Kebbi State Governor for his assent before it can take effect.
