The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to major infrastructure projects with the ongoing construction of the Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, a road expected to transform trade and business across Nigeria and the West African subregion.

During an inspection of the project sites in Kebbi and Sokoto States on Friday, Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, described the highway as one of the administration’s most strategic projects. Accompanied by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, he said the road reflects President Bola Tinubu’s focus on development despite current economic challenges.

The highway will stretch across Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, and several other states before reaching Badagry in Lagos, linking Nigeria with neighbouring countries such as Niger and Mali. Goronyo noted that the route will stimulate commercial activities, particularly around the Sokoto and Kebbi corridor, while also connecting to the Illela International Market where construction begins.

According to the minister, the superhighway covers more than 1,000 kilometres and will serve as a trade lifeline for millions of people. He added that its completion will create opportunities for farmers, traders, and industries by opening up markets and reducing transportation bottlenecks.
Goronyo urged host communities to support the project and recognise its long-term benefits, stressing that the initiative goes beyond politics and stands as proof of government’s commitment to the welfare of the people.
He also commended Minister Umahi for driving the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda through infrastructure delivery, noting that the project represents a turning point for Nigeria’s integration with regional markets.
