Youths in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, have rejected comments by Governor Usman Ododo’s Security Adviser, Jerry Omodara, accusing them of being politically sponsored in their protests against rising insecurity.

In a video obtained on Saturday, Omodara dismissed the demonstrations, saying blocking roads achieved nothing and could endanger travelers, including students and pregnant women. He insisted that protesters should liaise with local government leaders instead of taking to the streets.

His remarks angered the protesters, who said their actions were not politically motivated but a desperate response to killings and kidnappings in the area. “Nobody sponsored us, we did it because of insecurity,” one of the demonstrators shouted in the video.

On Thursday, residents had staged a mass protest, blocking a major road and burning tires to draw attention to the crisis.
