PDP Challenges INEC Over Discrepancies In Osun Voter Registration Data

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of releasing contradictory figures in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), warning that the inconsistencies could be part of a plot to disenfranchise citizens.

In a statement on Thursday by its Director of Media, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, the party described the situation as alarming, citing a sharp disparity between online pre-registrations and completed in-person registrations in the state.

According to INEC, over 470,000 residents in Osun began their registration online within two weeks, yet fewer than 600 were listed as having completed the in-person process. The PDP dismissed the figures as misleading, insisting that field reports showed more than 25,000 completed registrations across the state.

“It is inconceivable that a state recording daily averages of 1,500 to 2,000 in-person registrations would suddenly shrink to only 500 in the national report,” the party said, accusing the commission of under-reporting Osun’s figures.

The PDP warned that such contradictions undermine public trust in INEC’s capacity to deliver credible elections ahead of the 2026 governorship poll and the 2027 general elections.

The party demanded that INEC immediately correct the figures, publish the actual Osun numbers, and explain the discrepancies. It also stressed the need for openness in handling voter card transfers, warning against any closed process that could weaken confidence in the electoral system.

The nationwide physical registration exercise began on August 25, 2025, with Osun topping the list of pre-registrants at 474,372, followed by Lagos with 355,372 and Ogun with 265,399.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for July 2026.
