Falana Says FG Freed Ibom Air Passenger To Cover KWAM 1 Case

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has alleged that the Federal Government’s decision to drop charges against Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson was linked to its handling of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as KWAM 1.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Falana claimed authorities pardoned Emmanson because they had already decided not to prosecute KWAM 1 for his alleged disruptive behaviour at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. He argued that by sparing the musician from legal action, the government undermined its ability to fairly pursue similar cases against other passengers.

Falana criticised the speed with which the government accepted KWAM 1’s apology and granted him clemency, saying this happened before police could complete their investigation. He warned that such selective treatment could lead to accusations of bias, as all citizens are entitled to equal rights and obligations under the law.

According to him, the decision risks creating a perception that some individuals are above the law, eroding public confidence in the government’s commitment to maintaining order in the aviation sector.
