PDP Urges Police To Arrest Attackers Of Anambra Guber Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Inspector-General of Police to arrest those behind the recent attack on its governorship candidate in Anambra State, Chief Jude Ezenwafor.

Ezenwafor was reportedly ambushed and shot at by gunmen in Abuja over the weekend while returning from a personal engagement. Though he survived the attack, the incident has raised concerns about political violence ahead of the November governorship election.

The PDP said the attack appears to be a targeted attempt to intimidate its candidate and disrupt his growing support base in Anambra. According to the party, the shooting may have been sponsored by forces uncomfortable with Ezenwafor’s rising popularity.

The party warned that those behind the failed assassination attempt may now resort to smear campaigns in a continued effort to discredit the PDP candidate. It described the attack as a reflection of the worsening state of security in Nigeria.

PDP also alleged that such violent incidents are a product of poor leadership under the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. It urged security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further violence and ensure Ezenwafor’s safety throughout the election period.

The party maintained that no act of violence or propaganda would deter its candidate or supporters from pressing ahead with their campaign. It reaffirmed its belief that the people of Anambra are ready to elect a people-focused and transparent government under the PDP.

Ezenwafor has been urged by his party to stay strong and not be discouraged by the attack. The PDP expressed confidence that its candidate would prevail in the coming election.
