The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has dismissed claims that the recent court judgment involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could prevent the party from participating in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement posted on his social media handle on Sunday, Keyamo described such claims as misinformation, insisting that the ADC would be on the ballot. However, he said candidates from the faction led by former Senate President David Mark, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, could be excluded depending on the Supreme Court’s final decision.
He argued that the judgment should not be interpreted as disqualifying the entire party but as having implications for candidates who emerged from the David Mark-led faction.
Keyamo also questioned why Nigerians who successfully won their primaries under what he described as the ADC’s original owners’ faction should be considered less entitled to participate in the elections than Mark, Atiku and other members of their faction.
He said those raising concerns about the party’s participation in the 2027 elections were misrepresenting the court’s decision, maintaining that the ADC itself would remain eligible to appear on the ballot.
Keyamo’s comments follow a ruling by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the David Mark-led caretaker leadership of the ADC.
The court also invalidated several decisions taken by the caretaker committee, including the process that produced Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
