2027: Tinubu Delayed Tax Collection Over Election Fears – Kwankwaso

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of delaying the implementation of tax collection under the newly enacted tax laws out of fear of losing the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso made the allegation during the inauguration of the NDC campaign council in Jigawa State, held in Dutse, the state capital.

He claimed that although the tax reform bills had been passed into law, the Federal Government was reluctant to begin their implementation because of concerns about the possible political consequences ahead of the elections.

Kwankwaso said the administration had postponed tax collection because it feared that implementing the laws could affect its electoral chances.

He warned that Nigerians could face increased tax collection if the ruling All Progressives Congress secured another mandate in 2027.

According to him, the government could introduce aggressive tax collection measures, including going from house to house to identify taxable items.

The former Kano State governor also alleged that the session during which the tax bills were approved was chaired by a senator from Kano, while the Senate President deliberately stayed away to avoid being associated with the process.

Kwankwaso promised that the NDC would cancel what he described as unnecessary taxes if Nigerians voted the party into power.

He also pledged to provide quality education and sponsor children’s education under an NDC-led government.

The NDC vice-presidential candidate urged Nigerians not to give the APC another opportunity to govern, arguing that its re-election would jeopardise the country’s future.
