Tinubu Faces Backlash At Convention

In African Democratic Congress convention held in Abuja on Tuesday, key figures including David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola and Atiku Abubakar criticised Bola Ahmed Tinubu over worsening hardship and insecurity.

They said the ruling government would not have an easy path in the 2027 elections as public anger grows across the country.

The leaders argued that Nigerians are facing rising poverty and unsafe conditions, blaming the current administration for failing to improve lives.

Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi also spoke, warning that the country’s situation has declined and needs urgent change through united political action.

Despite the strong showing, a rival bloc led by Nafiu Bala Gombe rejected the convention and said it would hold its own gathering after a court decision.

The crisis within the party has led to multiple factions, with disputes over leadership stretching back to 2025 and involving court battles.

The convention ended with the emergence of a leadership team backed by thousands of delegates, while party figures called for unity ahead of the 2027 polls.

At the same time, the Supreme Court of Nigeria fixed April 22 to hear an appeal that could shape the party’s leadership dispute and future direction.
