In a statement issued in Kaduna, Secretary-General Nafiu Baba-Ahmad said the reports were false and came from unverified sources.

He said the council never released any directive calling for such prayers and urged the public to ignore the claims.

According to him, the reports were meant to mislead people and drag the body into political disputes.

The council added that it remains committed to justice, peace and unity, and only communicates through its official channels. It warned Nigerians against relying on social media rumours spreading misinformation.

While denying the prayer directive, the group restated its earlier view that the INEC chairman should step down over concerns about neutrality.

It, however, maintained that its position is not political but based on issues it believes affect fairness.
