Bishops Demands For Electoral Result Transparency
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria has called on the National Assembly to urgently return to the drawing board on electoral reforms, focusing on compulsory real-time transmission of results during elections.
The church leaders said the credibility of future polls depends on stronger safeguards.
They made the appeal amid growing public debate over the conduct of elections and the need to build trust in the system.
The bishops stressed that technology must be fully backed by clear laws that leave no room for manipulation.
According to the conference, making electronic transmission mandatory will reduce disputes and restore confidence among voters.
They maintained that transparent result handling is key to deepening democracy across the country.
The clerics urged lawmakers to act quickly and ensure that any amendments reflect the expectations of Nigerians ahead of future elections.
