FEC Approval Stalls Bus Terminal Launch – Wike

The three bus and taxi terminals built in Abuja will begin operations once the Federal Executive Council approves their management under a Public Private Partnership arrangement, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said.

Wike spoke after inspecting ongoing road projects in the capital, explaining that although the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals were completed and inaugurated in June 2025, they cannot operate without FEC approval of the selected private operators.

He noted that the procurement process has cleared the Bureau of Public Procurement and now awaits final clearance.

The terminals, awarded in 2024 at a cost of ₦51 billion, were designed to modernise transport in the capital and curb roadside parking.

Each of the completed facilities can handle over 10,000 passengers daily and accommodate about 120 buses and taxis for intercity and intra-city travel.

The Central Business District terminal is nearing completion.

Wike added that more terminals are planned for Gwagwalada, Bwari and Kuje, as authorities estimate that at least 12 would be needed across the territory.

Each terminal is expected to create around 100 jobs in security, ticketing, maintenance and operations, with officials describing the facilities as comparable to running a small airport.
