FG Reopens Kebbi Border For Trade

The Federal Government has approved the reopening of the Tsamiya land border in Kebbi State for cross-border trade under strict security rules.

The decision was disclosed by Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, following concerns raised by exporters, transporters, and traders.

The move comes after high-level consultations involving Nigerian and neighbouring countries’ authorities.

Adeniyi confirmed that the reopening was backed by President Bola Tinubu and will be guided by security protocols to prevent criminal exploitation of the corridor.

Customs officials will use ICT systems to monitor goods and ensure compliance, while violations, including diversion of trucks, will attract prosecution.

Border communities are expected to benefit from the renewed trade, boosting local economies and strengthening national security.

Stakeholders welcomed the development, noting that the corridor is crucial for perishable goods like onions and for regional trade.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris pledged cooperation with security agencies, while representatives from Benin Republic Customs confirmed continued bilateral support.
