The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has said more than 10 million vulnerable Nigerians who benefited from the N75,000 conditional cash transfer programme do not have access to mobile phones or social media.

Yilwatda made the statement on Saturday while speaking to journalists after a three-day retreat of the APC National Executive Council in Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to him, many of the beneficiaries are unable to participate in public discussions about government policies because they have limited access to communication and media platforms.
He said the beneficiaries, whom he described as poor and vulnerable Nigerians, generally lacked mobile phones, television sets and access to social media, making it difficult for them to publicly discuss or challenge government policies.
Yilwatda said more than 10 million Nigerians had received N75,000 through the conditional cash transfer programme administered by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
The APC chairman also criticised former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his position on fuel subsidy.
Yilwatda defended the decision to remove the subsidy, arguing that it had enabled state governments to meet their salary and pension obligations.

He said the government was also carrying out road construction and other projects across the country while workers were being paid at various project sites.
According to him, more than 30 states had previously struggled to pay salaries and pensions, but the removal of the subsidy had improved the financial position of states.
Yilwatda warned that restoring the subsidy could affect government programmes and projects, including the student loan scheme and major infrastructure developments.
He also mentioned projects such as the coastal road and a gas project intended to extend infrastructure and economic activity towards northern Nigeria.
The APC chairman accused Atiku of seeking to reverse policies of the Tinubu administration as part of his bid for the presidency in 2027. He said the APC would oppose any move to reverse what the party considers its administration’s achievements.
Yilwatda further disclosed that the NEC retreat reviewed the party’s activities across the national, state, local government, ward and polling-unit levels.
He said the meeting concluded that the APC remained prepared for the 2027 general elections.
The chairman also said the APC National Executive Council passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other party candidates who emerged from its primaries for the 2027 elections.
