Atiku Says No One Steps Aside In ADC Race

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says no aspirant will withdraw from the African Democratic Congress presidential race ahead of the 2027 election, insisting that all contenders will be allowed to run freely.

He spoke on Tuesday through a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, while reacting to growing talks that he was under pressure to step down for a southern candidate within the party.

Atiku said the push for any aspirant to quit the race was part of a wider plan by the ruling All Progressives Congress to weaken the opposition and restrict political choices for Nigerians.
He described the current administration under President Bola Tinubu as a burden on the country, arguing that the economic hardship and political climate had made life tougher for citizens since 2023.

The former vice president said the ADC was formed to offer Nigerians a strong alternative and would choose its presidential candidate through an open and competitive process without outside pressure.
He added that the party was focused on building its structure nationwide and would resist intimidation or interference, maintaining that all qualified aspirants would contest freely as preparations for 2027 continue.
