The disclosure came during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year goodwill message to soldiers, officers, civilian staff, and their families, where the Army chief praised the president’s backing as commander-in-chief.
According to Shaibu, the extra funds have strengthened operations by improving training facilities, allowing the purchase of modern equipment, and supporting welfare programmes for troops and their families.
He also revealed that the president approved a higher recruitment quota for the Nigerian Army, a move aimed at boosting manpower and improving combat strength nationwide.

The Army chief commended troops deployed in conflict zones who spent the festive season away from home, describing their sacrifices as vital to national safety, while assuring them that professionalism, discipline, and welfare remain top priorities.
In the North-East, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalami Abubakar, said the improved support has raised morale and results, noting that recent operations led to the elimination of hundreds of terrorists, recovery of weapons, rescue of civilians, and the establishment of new forward bases to expand security control.
